crazy days...
saturday i went to R's 20 year high school reunion. SI class of 1985. wowsers...
fun night, casino theme. open bar (well, wine and beer). good food. nice people. i really enjoyed myself. i discovered the game of roulette. mesmerizing game.
one of the highlights... we were sitting at the dinner table. round table, just the two of us (no assigned seating, everyone can choose their seats... i chose the one closest to the buffett of course...) i had a headache all day. one of those headaches that never go away. plus i was a little sick, been coughing all week. (more like, hacking away at my lungs kind of cough). i got all dolled up for the night, but wasn't feeling particularly pretty... headache, coughing and all. we were alone at our table. which was fine. we ate, we talked, we drank. then a couple comes over, "may we join you?" i don't look up, i'm busy cutting into my roast beef, medium rare, quite delicious, "of course, of course" i say. the woman says, extending her hand, "hi! i'm hilary". i'm in mid bite, and she laughs, "oh i'm sorry, caught you right in the middle there". i nod, smile, i shake her hand. i look at her, nice smiling eyes. i'm no good with names, i read her name tag, we all have name tags. right, hilary. last name... newsom. hmmmm, just like...then it hits me... those eyes. that name. then i remember, gavin's sister is married to... and sure enough there he was, geoff callan, one of R's old schoolmates. i'm thinking, no way. too funny! i'm sitting next to gavin's sister, and their new baby sienna. i'm coughing and spreading my germs next to hilary newsom.
she was really nice, very friendly. she says hi to R. they know each other, from the wedding last summer R worked. they talk about events, how come no one's called her about balboa cafe for some upcoming thing... etc etc. crazy. then later, who joins the table, but mr mayor's right hand man/ advisor/ groom from last summer's wedding, mike farrah. and course he sits next to me coz hilary's sitting on geoff's lap to make room for mike and his lovely bride, miss webbies herself, maya. i'm thinking, this is just too funny. i'm spreading my germs around all these movers and shakers kind of folks. nice. i try not to gush to hilary... i really want to say, i think you're brother is soo hot! and he's so righteous! but i chose to be cool and just keep eating my roast... make small talk. we talk about momhood etc etc. they brought their 8 month baby coz of babysitting issues.
fun night. good eats, good drinks. enjoyed playing roulette. met R's old friends. and 6 degrees away from gavin the entire evening.
the next day... meeting with the weavers...
