early halloween party

the whole familia went to the SF Zoo last night for the fundraiser Halloween Heroes. what a lot of fun that was... so many treats! we came home with bags and bags of candy and loot. the girls, who came in costume, made soap and teddy bears (build a bear was there). the boy, the constant critic, did not have any negative thing to say. he was even all around pleasant. there were local athletes on hand, i saw lots of autograph signing going on, but since i'm no sports person, i had no idea who they were. i did want to see brandi chastain, but didn't get to. maybe i bumped into her, but didn't recognize her with her shirt on. they had trick or treat stations where they give you an empty bag and you pretty much fill it with as much sugary sweetness as you want from the jars and jars of candy. jules had this maniacal laugh when she came back with her bags... "sugar!!!!" she cried insanely, and she didn't even have one yet! she looked mad i tell ya! like she was overcome by the devil himself.

there were tables and tables of cookies, krispy kreme donuts (with halloween orange and brown sprinkles of course), a chocolate fountain where you can dip pretzels, graham crackers, rice crispy treats and just eat away, all kinds of desserts, chocolates from see's and ghirardelhi, ice cream, popcorn, a cotton candy maker, hot chocolate with whip cream, and on and on. for adults there were a couple of open bars (thank god!!) and food from various restaurants. almost all the kids last night were in costume, except for my son, who just two days ago unequivocally announced, "i am not dressing up for halloween this year!" i think he only dressed once. "why do i have to get dressed for candy? i don't get it! it doesn't make any sense!" but usually, on the day of, he'd put on a mask or something.

anyway, it was pretty hard to wake up on time this morning for all of us... hungover from too many sweets and too much partying at the zoo.
