updates...

so, no i did not meet the current mayor last... was it tuesday? he was not there, but former mayor willie brown was the guest of the evening at the consulate's social hall. y'all remember his sister city program with manila couple of years ago? well, he's being given some kind of medal by prez arroyo herself when he visits the philippines sometime this month with a bunch of folks he went there with whenever that was 2 or 3 years ago. apparently mr. brown "single handedly rescued the philippine stock exchange". it was a roomfull of suits... i walked in thinking... who died? not very interesting gathering... as it made sense only to the business suits and willie himself. i left as soon as the speeches began. i was embarrassed for my country. the speeches were nothing more than a run down of the itinerary of his trip... ie... who will handle flights, what hotel, security, etc. i kept thinking... um, shouldn't this stuff be handled, i don't know, via executive assistants, office meetings and email? not during the reception? seemed so lame to me. and no, those were not the people i felt like networking with. (i've never liked nor been good at networking anyway... really i just came for the appetizers)

and no i did not bother to shake mr. brown's hand. i was working a high end party in the more affluent part of town back when he was "da mayor". i was a cater waiter (among my other jobs). he worked that room well, shook hands with everyone, said hello. but when he was near us service staff, he barely looked up or acknowledged our presence. i'm like, hello... we are san franciscan voters too... anyway, since then, i haven't been particularly fond of him. he was only friendly to those who were wealthy, and pretty much ignored us working low class folks. (us low class folks were all artists, students (of law, medicine, history), teachers to be, etc) he may have put his drink and napkin on my tray, i forget. note to all, be nice to your cater waiters. they do have other jobs, aspirations in life, and may someday be influential in things that matters.

and no i did not meet mr newsom on thursday night at the city hall philippine american history month shindig. but i did meet jason chin, who works in the mayor's office as community liason and put the event together. i saw him escorting mr newsom around. i thanked him for letting us put up the exhibit...

JC to LG: "oh no, thank you for your generosity" (he looked all of 17 years old)

LG to JC: "jason, if you don't mind my asking, how old are you?" he seemed to enjoy that question.

JC to LG: "how old do you think?"

LG: "17!"

JC: "25! it's coz i'm asian...how old do you think this guy is?" (he pulls over this even younger looking guy in a suit)

LG: "oh geez, 12?"

JC and other guy: they both laugh. other guys says "i'm 24... it's the asian genes."

other guy also works in the mayor's office. i forget what he does. newsom's office is just filled with young blood, literally. and i like it. younger, more progressive minded people, who talk to, acknowledge, and thank everyone, not just those who are "important".

that night, i ran into bryan, who was there with the bindlestiff group. so nice to see maestro! and congratulations on the new job!

the kids were with me, and enjoyed all the performances. we headed to the asian art museum for the shindig there. watched one of the performance pieces, then headed home. late night, but a great time celebrating our heritage month.

last night, chinese take out/several MUNI delays/therapy night. whew!

tonight, family and friends night... having dinner with old friends. looking forward to chillaxin' at the cruz's!

tomorrow night, "wife's night out". dinner with a girlfriend at Tokyo GoGo. been wanting to try that place for a while, finally getting around to it. then more talk and drinks at Pink. if it's not raining, maybe i'll wear my new heels. be nice to just hang out.

in couple of nights, Isa's birthday slumber party. she's turning 12! 8 preteen girls in my house. oh dear...

then it's thanksgiving. and then christmas is coming... christmas is coming!!

boy, i thought november would be calmer than october...
where did this year go?
