wicked sushi and the man with the urns
sushi
Tokyo GoGo is a fantastic place for sushi! fun atmosphere, but not frenetic. i specially liked the use of balls of light to illuminate the place. there is a huge screen above the sushi chefs, and that night they were playing akira kurosawa's "red beard". there were couple of times i lost my train of thought because i was gazing at the mezmerizing movie. very nice variety of sake. we had 2 (or was it 3) bottles between the two of us. i recommend the meibo. from 5-7, they have a very cool happy hour special. you get great deals on hand rolls, and you beat the crowd. we arrived about half past six, and it was very quiet. but by the time we left, around 8, the line was almost out the door. so arrive early, or make reservations. the sushi was divine! fresh, well prepared. the rolls, which i am not always fond of (i prefer fish by itself, unadorned), was quite delicious.
it's a definitely a hipster kind of joint, and the more friends you have with you the merrier. next time though i will try sitting by the sushi bar, and see what the chef's recommend. that night i was catching up with a friend. typically, when i dine alone at sushi restaurants, i like to chat up the sushi chefs whenever possible - let them guide my meal. also, i like the line of the stools. overall, an excellent experience. i'd love to go back again.
turned 12 and wicked
number one turned 12 this weekend. she opted for a slumber party at the house. 7 pre-teen girls all in one place. it was an easy enough party - pizza, rental movie, rootbeer floats, chips... but next time, i'll remember the ear plugs. number one was such a delightful host, and very helpful! i didn't have to do much, but all the same, i was exhausted by the end of the next day.
for her birthday gift, we are sending number one to new york to see "wicked" this winter. she sings the songs all the time. for her b-day one of her friends got her a book, an uncle got her the CD soundtrack (and boy we're listening to it everyday!), and a fun "aunt" got her a "popular" shirt from NY. agong's really sweet, wanted to give number one $20 out of his own money for her trip. nice kid, when he's not annoying the heck out of his sisters. it will definitely by a memorable trip for her, her first plane ride solo, and she will be guided by a fun "aunt" (a dear old friend of ours) who lives in the upper east side. shoot, i wish my folks let me out of the house once when i was her age!
urns
i am meeting the man with the urns this evening at the philippine center. it should be interesting. i hope i don't call him mr. haagen daaz.
mutya
had first rehearsal last night with APDT for the upcoming Kularts 20 year anniversary festivities. "mutya" is the latest work of alleluia panis. we've been working on it for a couple of years now, and next year will be the final showing of the finished product. i have not danced in months, and i was so stiff. i couldn't even articulate my fingers i was so stiff. (all night, all i could think of was, i'm sorry, you want me to do what?) i'm glad it's a small show. only 2 more rehearsals then it's the performance. i'm sure i'll see likha folks on dec. 3. the rondalla will be performing. hopefully professor will give us a hand with our music. herna's a genius, but she's all alone. be nice to work with the prof again for sure.
