transmissions, tables and toasters...

A few days before we opened the gallery, just when it couldn't possibly be at a better time, our car died. We had it towed to a garage where we were told it needs a new transmission.

The next day we moved our desk at home to the gallery. I love that desk, very modern looking piece of furniture that served as our home office. We bought it on Church street one weekend last year for fifty bucks (truly!). Someone was having a garage sale. It looks fabulous in the gallery, it has space to breathe and you can walk around it. But my living room looks like the desk exploded. Papers and files in baskets and boxes strewn everywhere.

And, just to make things more interesting, our toaster died a few days after that, too. I think it also needs a new transmission.

I can handle a dead car and papers everywhere in the living room. We were able to get the gallery ready for the Thursday night opening, we were able to get Isa to and from rehearsals and performances at the Eureka Theater (she had a 7 run show of "Wonderful Town"), and we were able to get kids to and from school as well. I was able to create a semblance of order despite the crucial missing piece of furniture. But I need, absolutely NEED my toast in the mornings. This is simply not acceptable. I've got this dull headache a few days now. I know it's because my body and spirit is all out of whack due to the toast crisis. I know I can make toast using the oven broiler, but then I have to time it or else it's burnt. And when you are busy making lunches and breakfast and getting yourself ready for work, who has time to time the toast? This simply will not do!

On the upside of things...

The gallery is now open! And we've actually sold paintings! I can get my shoes out of hock now (since all our resources have gone into the gallery, I couldn't even get my shoes from the cobblers... now I can! Yippee!)

Giliginich and partner came to the gallery over the weekend and purchased Ben Needham's "Terra Firma" (it's the small painting with the little girl near the window in Gallery B). Congratulations to them!! I hear they are also interested in Needham's "Saigon Boys". I hope they get it. It's another beautiful painting and there's lots of interest in it.

To those who haven't been by yet, come visit. We have a Friends and Family Open House this Saturday, Feb 18, from 2-6pm. You're all welcome to attend!

It was wonderful to see friends last Thursday. Thanks so much for coming!

Isa's show at the Eureka Theater was a success. They had 7 shows.. SEVEN! And she loved every moment of it. (And boy am I glad I don't have to drive her/ bus her there and back again, at least til next year!) Rehearsals resume again this March for the April performances (5 shows). At least we have a little break until the rehearsal/performance madness resumes.

I finally got to rescue this nice mission style (by some stretch of the imagination) coffee table from our basement. It's been sitting there for a couple of years, weathering the storms (remember, a lake forms in our basement during the rainy season). It's in the living room now, serving as a desk for the computer. At least it's now in a dry room.

Another week begins. What will happen this time I wonder? I can handle almost anything life throws my way. But I need toast. Otherwise, there's just no balance in the universe.
