by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes
so the monkeys, R & I were at Barnes & Noble near Pier 39 last night for the midnight Harry Potter book party. we love the Potter series, and this is the first time we've attended one of these buy your copy at the stroke of midnight deals. isa wore her dementor outfit, a dark purple hooded cape with the a black face mask, so you can't see her face at all. she looks very dark and menacing. she was a veritable vision of terror.
we got to the bookstore around 1030pm. as soon as you enter, you get an orange band that has your number for when it's your turn to go to the cashier and purchase the book. they were giving out Harry Potter glasses, they were playing the last movie, they had trivia games, face painting, and a costume contest. there was a good amount of people, families. the Harry Potter books were no where in site. later I saw them being rolled in directly to behind the cashier counter in boxes by security guards.
there were kids of all ages, all cute little witches and wizards. isa had the biggest applause though, as she paraded in her dementor outfit in character. they called the winner... isa won!! woohoo!! all the other kids looked really adorable in their capes and hats, but come on... isa was a fuckin' dementor!!! cool! her prize was something like winning the golden ticket, she gets to be one of the first 10 people to purchase the book right at the stroke of midnight (we were #51, with orange bands... and they were calling yellow bands first, which are all the folks who reserved the book months ago... who knows how many of those there were!) they were really tight about making sure no book was sold before midnight. i could feel the excitement in the air. more people arrived by then, and it felt like a holiday celebration. it was like new year when they counted the last 10 seconds. thanks to isa the dementor, we didn't have to stay much later (we had assumed we'd be there til at least 1am!).
at the house today, everytime the book is left unattended, someone picks it up.... hey! i was reading that!! ahh, i love children's lit!
