ladybug picnic over rainbow connections

one of my current favourite sf/bay area bands, the dead hensons will be playing next week, on the 14th on KFOG, which is where i heard them first, then on the 16th at the independent. i have to say, the dead hensons helped me through some very tough times last year. they are essentially an 8 piece cover band. they play jim henson tunes and all kinds of classics from old school sesame street and the muppets. if you grew up being babysat by sesame street like me (pre-Elmo times), and watched the muppets and grooved with the electric mayhem, then you know what kind of music i'm talkin' about. they cheered me up when i needed to hear something happy, innocent, cheerful, and hopeful. it was great fun to be in a club full of beer guzzlin' mid 30's and up folks all singin' and rockin' to classics like "the lonely n" (i always lite my lighter to this anthem), "the ladybug picnic" (fire insurance for lady bugs!!!), and the earth shattering mind blowing "can you picture that". and yes, i even shed a tear when they played "rainbow connection" with banjo and some snappy tap dancin'. these guys are simply amazing, they play everything from horns, organ, banjo, drums and spoons. and they sure can belt out those tunes. i felt like i was a kid again watching jim henson classics, but amped and with beer!

if you have a chance, check out their site and check out their shows! the website has some music samples from their one and only vinyl (VINYL!), as well as past shows. i'm a huge, HUGE! DH fan. i love those guys! maybe i'll see some of ya at the show next week! rock on!!

on a side note, Lara Gitara has been sited attempting to jump onstage with her guitar to sing along, which the DH members seemed gracious enough to oblige, but she was removed from the stage immediately by annoyed audience members when she began to sing a totally different tune and wildly off key.
